LOS GATOS-ISH—A new streaming service launched Tuesday with fourteen exclusive programs viewers distinctly remember seeing on a different service last Thursday.
The platform offers thousands of hours of entertainment, including the first two seasons of a beloved drama, season four for some reason and a reunion special available only through an add-on requiring a second password.
Executives described the service as a revolutionary home for stories. Customers described it as “Wait, don’t we already have this?” while searching a bank statement for recurring charges.
Content finds a new temporary home
Under modern streaming arrangements, shows migrate between platforms according to complex licensing agreements and the phases of the moon. A program may be “exclusive” to three services simultaneously while remaining unavailable to the person trying to watch it.
The launch package includes a free seven-day trial that becomes a permanent family expense unless canceled through a settings page accessible only during a lunar eclipse.
Subscribers can choose an ad-supported plan, an ad-light plan, an ad-free plan that still includes promotional interruptions, and a premium plan in which the interface apologizes before asking whether they are still watching.
The company also unveiled a personalized recommendation engine. After analyzing a user’s viewing history, it recommends the same crime documentary already covering 80 percent of the homepage.
Industry analysts praised the platform’s strategy of solving subscription fatigue with another subscription. By 2028, experts predict every television show will operate its own streaming service for $6.99 per month.
The fourteen launch titles are expected to depart at the end of the month and reappear somewhere nobody remembers subscribing to.
